October 2016 Newsletter

October 7, 2016

Fall is here and the weather is slowly matching the season. The days are getting shorter and the air is getting cooler but the music from Flute is always perfect weather. Remember to take Flute with you wherever you go with the Hello Everybody app available at the AppStore and GooglePlay.

Celebrate Fall With Us

October is one of my favorite months of the year. Pumpkins, costumes, and fall festivals are all underway. A Minor Melody will be attending one of our favorite fall festivals hosted by Macaroni Kid. Stop by our tent and grab some goodies and snap some photos with you and your little ones in our Photo Booth. Join Macaroni Kid League City/Clear Lake for our annual Fall Bash in League Park (512 2nd St League City, TX 77573) on Saturday, October 8, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. We will have tons of fun entertainment for families including trick or treating and many more surprises! All FREE! Make sure the kids come in costume. First 200 families to arrive will receive a free swag bag with lots of goodies. Click here to see the Facebook Event and let us know you'll be there!

Let's Keep The Beat When On Our Feet

Rhythm is easy when using your upper body to display it. Most of us adults have no problem showing the beat with claps, taps, shakers, and more but when we get up to dance for some reason we loose our steps. If you have this problem where you loose your beat when dancing no worries we're here to help. Dancing for some of us can feel awkward we're not sure what to do with our arms, our legs aren't moving in the direction we think they should go, and everybody else looks like they get it. You have to let go of your expectations and remember there is no pressure to get it right or be perfect. Show your love for moving to the beat and your body will do the rest. The big beat is easy to follow by taking it one step at a time. In class when we start a dance routine we start with the steps. Once you get your footing you can sway the rest of your body to the same beat. If you find that the steps are enough of a challenge then stay right there and keep that beat in your feet. Showing your child your dancing feet is a great way to encourage them to not use their running feet.

Mixed Ages Are All Around Us

Everyday we as adults work with people of all ages. We take advice and become inspired by the minds of people not the years they have been here. Our children learn and grow the same way and that's why mixed age classes are so great! As parents it can be scary to see our toddlers playing in a room with older children. We fear the worst and want to control the situation. Older children are learning new responsibilities and are gaining new independence. It's easy to want to tell our children to stop but that doesn't always work the way we think it will. When we tell our child to not do something it gives them the attention they are seeking. Rather than telling your child no, no, no invite him to play with us. Show her the fun we're having and welcome her our circle. If you feel that your little one needs to reset feel free to take him outside of the classroom for a minute so you can explain to him privately why you are not participating. Outside of class talk to your child about the responsibility they have to help play a positive role in class. Explain to them that the younger children look up to them and by showing our friends how to behave they will make choices that are better for our musical community. Our society succeeds and grows when we work with people of different ages, gender, and races. Mixing ideas and cultures is how the world becomes a better place. So let's start young and use music as our gateway to connecting people.
